Statement regarding the International Anti-Corruption Day

December 9 is the International Anti-Corruption Day. At one time, Georgia was recognized as a country successfully combating corruption. Progress made in the fight against bribery (petty corruption) is maintained to this day, which is an important achievement. Assaults against the Public Defender of Georgia is a Matter of Grave Concern

The undersigned civil society organizations, would like to express our grave concern regarding the frequent verbal assaults against the Ombudsperson of Georgia. The office of the Public Defender of Georgia is the only independent constitutional institution in the country, which, in these circumstances of the ongoing state capture, is beyond the control of the ruling party.
