According to our observation mission, at this moment the 2018 Presidential Elections are being held in a largely peaceful environment. A vast majority of the electoral precincts, where our static observers are stationed, have been opened on time.
Transparency International Georgia (TI Georgia) will deploy 350 observers to monitor the November 28 runoff Presidential Elections. Our static observers will cover 300 precincts throughout the country. In addition, 45 mobile groups will also be involved in election observation.
After the first round of the presidential election, an increase in the number of instances of alleged vote buying and misuse of administrative resources has been especially noticeable. It is important that the relevant state institutions investigate these instances promptly so that the pre-election environment is not damaged.
The Central Election Commission did not take into account calls of NGOs and scheduled the election runoff for a weekday, on November 28.
According to the agenda of the CEC session today, in addition to summarizing the final election results, the electoral administration will also set the runoff election date, meaning that the presidential runoff will be scheduled for Wednesday, October 28.
