Transparency International Georgia: Chief Prosecutor Irakli Shotadze Should Resign
We make this statement in response to the events that unfolded around the murder of two young people on Khorava Street. We believe that the investigative measures carried out with regard to this case represent yet another confirmation that the Prosecutor's Office has failed to provide the public with a credible answer to the questions raised about undue influence concerning this case. The decision made by the court in this case also points to the fact that the prosecution was unable to properly investigate it.
For years, the public has had numerous questions about the partial and incomplete investigation of high-profile cases, which has become the reason for diminished trust towards the Prosecutor's Office. Currently, the Prosecutor's Office has lost the trust of the public while the current leadership of this agency does not have the capacity to regain it. In this situation, Chief Prosecutor Irakli Shotadze should assume political responsibility and resign from his post.
