Criminal Cases Against Protest Participants April 2024 - January 2025
17 February, 2025
The state is using various justice sector institutions, including the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Prosecutor's Office, and the Judiciary, against pro-EU demonstrators involved in protests. The coordinated actions of state authorities indicate that these individuals are denied the right to a fair trial. Since the 2024 Parliamentary Elections, 54 individuals have been prosecuted under criminal law, with 40 still in pretrial detention. During the April-May 2024 protests, 10 people were arrested; three have since been released—one through a plea agreement, another via a presidential pardon, and the third with a suspended sentence—while the rest remain imprisoned.
