Transparency International Georgia, the national chapter of the global Transparency International anti-corruption movement in the country of Georgia (not the US state), seeks a full-time software and web developer to design and create innovative and engaging websites and software tools that will support TI Georgia’s mission of promoting transparency and accountability of those in power within Georgia.
Georgia is a vibrant and rapidly changing country in the South Caucasus. Since the Rose Revolution of 2003, the country has seen successful reforms against corruption, economic development and some democratic reforms. TI Georgia works to solidify and expand on Georgia’s past anti-corruption successes, and is at the forefront of using technology to promote enhanced governmental transparency and accountability, both in Georgia and among TI chapters worldwide.
TI Georgia’s past technology projects have included a local implementation of the FixMyStreet concept, an SMS alert system for tracking the progress of bills through the Georgian Parliament, and scraping various types of data made available by the Georgian government.
Write a computer program, in any form and programming language you choose, that outputs a list of government-owned corporations in Georgia and their identification codes. You can find a database of these corporations at http://ema.gov.ge/content.php?lang=eng&id=94 [1]. Submitting the form with blank values will return every corporation. The database is not identical across languages, but you only need to output results from one language; we prefer that you output Russian or Georgian; working with Unicode text is an important part of our work. Your program does not need to be perfect; if you spend more than a few hours working on it, just submit the code and output as-is. Submit the following to devel@transparency.ge [2] with the subject line "Developer application":
You may attach files or provide links to files available online via Google Docs, GitHub, ScraperWiki, etc. If you have any questions about the programming aspect of this application, please send them to devel@transparency.ge [2]. This announcement is also available at: http://transparency.ge/en/developer-vacancy [3]. Answers to programming inquiries will be posted to that address. The deadline for application is August 3rd, 2012. However, applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis, so it is to your advantage to apply early.
