Vehicles owned by members of Parliament – Analysis of asset declarations
Transparency International Georgia periodically publishes information regarding property owned by members of the Georgian Parliament. This time, we decided to use publicly available asset declarations to gather data on personal vehicles owned by MPs and their family members.
MPs are obligated to declare all of their movable property with the value greater than GEL 10,000. Asset Declarations do not include exact values of specific items of property, meaning that it is entirely up to the MPs to determine the exact value of their vehicles.
Approximately half of all MPs have vehicle possession indicated in their asset declarations. In some cases, however, family members are indicated as owners. A number of declarations do not specify the year or manufacturer of declared vehicles.
Most popular car brands among lawmakers are Mercedes, Toyota, BMW, Volkswagen and Toyota LEXUS. Only 6 MPs have vehicles produced since 2010, while 16 MPs (and their family members) own more than a single car. MP Koba Nakopia and his family own the most number of vehicles – seven cars.
The infographic below illustrates MP vehicle ownership in more detail. The data is based entirely on latest asset declaration forms submitted by the MPs. Full data is available in the attached document.
